Base Case started in a small apartment in 2021, at the tail end of the year everyone learned what it meant to work from a table that wasn't a desk. The first product was a walnut catch-all tray — the one the founder kept looking for and couldn't find at a fair price.

Jordan Park spent seven years as a buyer at Muji before starting Base Case. That period is where the guiding rule came from: restraint isn't a style; it's a hiring policy for objects. Every product has to earn its place on the desk. If a thing exists somewhere else in a form that's meaningfully cheaper or better, we don't make it.

Today the catalog is 52 items across desk, storage, writing, shipping, ergonomics, and accessories — roughly the shape of a small business day. Everything ships from three warehouses in the western US, from a small operations team, in packaging designed to be reused or recycled without a note.

We're not trying to be the biggest supplier. We're trying to be the one you don't have to think about.
